The Black Lion, Long Melford is situated in one of Suffolk’s famous medieval wool towns, steeped in history and synonymous in the 15th century with weavers. Close to the Essex border and close to the River Stour, The Black Lion stands proudly on the 3 mile stretch of road which is now the High Street. Overlooking the magnificent green and a 5 minute meander to the cathedral like Holy Trinity Church, its position within this up-market Suffolk town is unique and pretty special. A stone throw from Kentwell and Melford Hall you’ll find an abundance of picturesque Suffolk walking routes and quaint villages like Lavenham to explore.
The food ethos of the hotel is outstanding; ensuring that local suppliers are supported, therefor offering the freshest seasonal produce to its customers. We taste tested the spring menu this week and its clear the chef is very talented, offering delicately presented dishes that are not only a sensation for the taste buds but exquisite visually. The menu evolves throughout the year, depending on the produce available to ensure the best of produce offerings.
Whether you prefer traditional pub classics or something a little special, the menu has been carefully curated to suit all tastes, as well as offering an extensive wine {and gin!} menu.
With 10 ensuite bedrooms, we were lucky enough to stay in the Grand Luxury Suite, complete with its own sitting room area with feature victorian stone fireplace and extremely large bedroom – perfect for families or for that special night away. The detail of the furnishings and decor was sumptuous and classical, complete with a huge kingsize bed.
Look out for the experiences available, such as afternoon tea, floristry courses and offers such as mid-week, romantic, even dog lovers breaks away. They even offer exclusive shooting parties which can be tailored to include private dining and personal Land Rover service. As well as luxurious bespoke weddings.
