The Dunn’s, Orford

January 3, 2020

The village of Orford, like a nostalgic trip down memory lane; the epitome of past quintessential Suffolk. Walkers, cyclists, bird lovers or music, history, food and drink- whatever you’re into, Orford offers it and we were over the moon to be invited to stay at the newly renovated holiday home,The Dunn’s. Arguably on one of the prettiest little lanes in this rather lovely area of outstanding natural beauty.

The story of The Dunn’s is without a doubt a special one. Owned by Jodie Pinney, it was her late Grandmothers originally and determined to retain her wonderful childhood memories of this special place, Jodie decided to fully renovate it, in an inspiring scandinavian style. Allowing her family to enjoy many further years of pleasure but also available through Best Of Suffolk  for you to hire.

On entrance into the main porch it becomes immediately apparent the wonderful attention to detail, quantifying the love that’s really been invited into this fantastic renovation. Dark panelling and sweet hanging hooks for outdoor paraphernalia welcomes you, complete with reusable shopping bag and umbrellas for a shopping trip to the closest old fashioned greengrocers.

The flow of the downstairs space is outstanding. A well proportioned sitting room with solid soak flooring, scandi furniture and woodbuner makes this space inviting and pleasurable to spend time in. Pretty little accessories are dotted around for that home to home feel, providing a feeling of warmth and tranquility.

The dining space, comfortably seats 6 people for entertaining, with French doors looking out to the garden; leading through to the stunning kitchen area. Gifts of wine, biscuits, chocolate from the famous Pump Street Bakery, Adnams Dry Hopped Larger and the most beautiful Pinney’s smoked salmon were left for us. Complete with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, electrical oven with induction hob and washing machine. From the kitchen, doors lead to the courtyard area.

A downstairs bedroom with en-suite completes the living space on the ground floor, with a super king-size bed, which can be unzipped to a twin instead.

Stepping up the solid oak stairs you are greeted with a large landing, velux windows give you and outstanding view of Orford Castle, the river and the pretty cottage tops nearby. Complete with Mustard Made locker furniture (swoon!) and fun artwork, this space is just beautiful.

The master bedroom leading from the landing is wonderful. With its huge windows flooding in light, providing views to the farmland and beyond; complete with a seating area perfect for morning coffee and watching the sunset. French doors provide you with a gorgeous small balcony with an additional wonderful view and a further glimpse of the castle top.

The bathroom is breathtaking. A wonderfully bright space with additional velux windows, perfect for star gazing. Complete with freestanding bath and a huge shower. Plum and Ashby toiletries are situated throughout the property which is such a lovely touch.

The outdoor space provides a patio and lawned area, suitable for the children to let off steam and alresco dining. The courtyard area is also suitable for outdoor dining and comes complete with a BBQ.

Thank you for the most wonderful weekend at your little gem in the Suffolk countryside Jody, what an absolute treat it was!

Luxury Facial with Blush & Glow, Southwold

January 14, 2019

When I was invited to Blush & Glow Beauty Boutique in Southwold, I could hardly refuse. January is a month of grey days, dark mornings and tired looking skin after the festivities of the Christmas period. I think we all suffer a little from Seasonal Affective Disorder, that desire to close ourselves from the world and hibernate, ideally waking up in Spring like the garden hedgehog. Lets face it, thats not reality. Instead we strive to engulf ourselves in ‘feel-good’ factors {that don’t involve copious amounts of Bailey’s on ice and Christmas pudding with as much brandy butter one could physically consume!} For me, exercise and self care is my January prescription.

Blush and Glow is a new luxury Beauty Boutique based in the picturesque, quintessential, famous chic seaside town of Southwold in Suffolk. Renowned for its beach lined beach huts, The Swan Hotel and bespoke shopping.

With beautiful {very inst friendly} interiors and three beautiful treatment rooms, the salon oozes elegance and class. In fact I could hardly believe what was hidden behind the pretty pick door off the high street.

Their ethos is ‘Enhancing your own natural beauty, not covering up. Helping you be your own kind of beautiful’ ‘ sums up nicely the professional approach I received in the salon.

I selected the Luxury Facial which is 75 minutes long {indulgent I know!} I wasn’t quite prepared for how utterly relaxing and rejuvenating this was going to be {and I’ve had a few facials over the years} Using the award winning REN Clean Skincare, the facial really was special; smelling divine. Each stage of the facial was given with so much care and time, I battled keeping my eyes open {although I am a great fan of the afternoon power-nap, finding the time to do this is tricky; honestly the struggle is real} Afterwards, I felt uplifted, glowing and revitalised. Best prescribed as a course of treatments, fortnightly or monthly ideally, I felt even as a one off my skin really did shout “Hooray”. Such a treat for tired skin.

Offering a range of treatments, from facials to hands and feet, waxing, tanning and body care, brows and lashes, makeup and bespoke spa packages, the salon owner Chelsea has created a haven for the discerning; whatever your age.

I will certainly be back, probably for a pedicure next, my winter feet have seen better days…..

As always, feel free to ask me any questions and I will endeavour to answer!

Here’s to a GLOWING January ✨
